I'm going to say it before any of you can:

slugma nuts

They made this adorable animation where a little girl visits her grandma. Her grandma heated the house using a slugma and the little girl was way more excited about slugma than any of the other household mons.

Slugs and snails have four “horns”. The top two are simple eyes and the lower two are chemo receptors. I think the two drips on either side of slugma’s and magcargo’s mouth are supposed to resemble the snail/slugs lower horns.

that one animated short about the family with a Slugma was so cute

There's this one species of snail called C. squamiferum that lives on hydrothermal vents deep in the ocean that incorporates iron sulfide into its shell and I like to think that that small snail is Magcargo in real life.

There's a species called the fire snail (Platymma tweediei), because it has a black and red appearance that makes it look just like a lava flow that's cooled at the top and "active" at the bottom.

Also, slugs and snails die from salt because it forcibly removes all the water from their body, dehydrating them. This makes Magcargo's 4x weakness to water really funny in comparison, because you're destroying it in the opposite way.

I will say, looking at it up close I love all the little details on the model. One of the few Pokémon I can wholeheartedly say was improved by the shift to 3D.

I'm gonna say it:

I believe that it is more then likely that the Magcargo line was made *specifically* because "Magma Escargot" is an amazing play on words

that pokemon short about the slugma-powered house really exemplified its full potential as a charming little critter, really a testament to pokemon's power to make every single mon someone's favorite pokemon

My favorite Fire Type. Most slept on line in the whole series. I love these two.

fun fact: the scaly foot gastropod y is a deep sea snail, notable for its shell composed of iron sulphide deposits making it rock hard. It is sometimes referred to as a volcano snail and might be assumed to inspire macargo but was in fact discovered in 2001, after the release of generation 2.

I've noticed a pattern. All the pokemon I want to hug are the ones what would injure me if I did so.

These guys deserve a cross regional evolution like how Primape got one and became Annialape

They are actually based on the scaly foot snail. A snail that lives in volcanic sea vents and has iron scales/iron shell

I love Slugma and Magcargo! By far probably my favourite fire types, when I told my boyfriend that I liked them he just responded with, "well, somebody has to" he was being cheeky of course but seriously Slugma and Magcargo are so underrated ❤

GF's clever observation that two unrelated things have more in common than anyone realized, and what a great idea for a Pokémon it is, goes over the heads of many fans. Less people recognize the same stroke of genius in Vanillite, GF likely noticed an icicle’s conical shape and the snow that is sometimes on top was like a natural ice cream cone. In the Pokémon universe, Vanillite was not born from man made ice cream, it inspired it. I agree the third form is ridiculous but it doesn’t invalidate the entire line. Always roll my eyes when people are trying to flex their supposed high taste/smarts or try to dunk modern Pokémon by saying “lOL neW pOKemON bAd iT’S jUsT IcE CrEAm.”

the pokemon short they did about slugma made me care so much more about the little guy

Very adorable little guys. Honestly, really underrated. I think they could do a more fantasy creature look with a regional variant of them, like water elementals of some sort or a Steel/Electricity hybrid for Macargo as it's liquid metal like Melmetal except it moves by it's inner electric pulses it sends through it's shell like a brain that sends electric pulses to our body to make it move and such. Giving it a shell that looks like a piece of a massive battery can add to that concept maybe?

These are by far my favourite Pokemon videos. Not just from you but any YouTuber. That genuine, magical, adorable moment when someone realizes they have a fondness for a specific Pokemon (or evo line) that they've never seen before or didn't realize they had. Critiquing things is obviously more engaging long-term, and more fun, but those moments where things are "actually kind of fine as they are and maybe even perfect" are pretty special.
