Forget what politicians talk about. Look at how they vote. Look at what bills they author and co-author.

The idea of private prisons is so obviously immoral and creates such terrible incentives I don’t even understand why this is a debate.

*What incentive does a prison have to reform anyone when their profit margin is the prisoner*

There should be no such things as private prisons. Something like that should not be privatized in the same vein police or the military should not be privatized.

Having been incarcerated I've never understood why the Commissary is so much more expensive then if I bought the same item on the street stuff is three times as much in prison. Forget if we are talking Contraband the price on that type of stuff is 100 times more expensive.

Private Prison Companies: we don’t control how long people are in prison!
Also Private Prisons: *spends millions on lobbying and campaign donations to lengthen prison sentences*

Something I can agree with this bald woman. The prison system should not be privatized. Incarceration should not be business.

Something that both dems and reps can agree on is that the prison system needs a mass reform here in America.

This is a wonderful mission, problem is the billionares in the entertainment (sports, movies, music, etc...) industries have so much invested in private prisons, that the best way in my opinion is to guide our young people away from paths to prison in the first place, and for the ones already inside; have real opportunities to guide them onto better pathways like (innercitylighthouse) in nyc, when they come out. I appreciate this awesome work that this amazing Woman is doing, but we at the grass roots neighborhood level have to put in work as well, lets stand up and work together to get what we need.

When profit & human misery collide, nothing good can come of it, whether self-perpetuating prisoners, the unhoused & medically compromised.

How about stop doing the crime and then you wont end up in those private prisons. Simple as that. You want to blame every other factor but the main one. Stupid people committing crimes

Anyone talking about abolishing crime? Hanging criminals used to work.

And it is not on the company's best interest to equip criminals to prevent re-offending.. it is in their best interest to keep people in the system

Private prisons just formalize the fact that the the government is throwing these people away; not rehabilitating them, not considering them citizens, not considering them individual humans with feelings and rights...

Quality of services to criminal?
No empathy to criminal?
Where were their empathy when they murder others?

Where do private prisons get their money tho? It's still government checks... Imagine if prisons were truly private. Imagine if prisoners could choose which prisons they go to, if prisons complete to have the most productive and educated prisoners that could work at a market wage at whatever they are best at. The prisoners could then pay for their own prison and make it nicer and more humane, saving tax dollars in the process. I know this has never been done, but having prisons be little capitalist cities seprate from society could be the solution, that give these guys something to live for and work twards a better future for themselves.
