As a South African I have to say that you either: Ate these snacks the wrong way (like the rusks, which needs to be dipped in tea or coffee) or you have some bad quality versions of the food (like those weirdass koeksisters)

Just a few things:
• Ouma Rusks is eaten as breakfast, usually dipped in coffee.
• The Anchovette is not really "South African" because not a lot of us likes it. It's sort of how Americans feel about their Mayo...
• Biltong slices shouldn't be bitten into because it just rips them and makes it less pleasant so try eating an entire "slice"
• Koeksisters is usually golden brown and crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. Those didn't look good at all.

And yeah...
Try our tea "Rooibos" and maybe some Amarula if you want a good liquore!
