This picture book about imagination is great way to ignite a student's mind. Marian and her friends find a special place in the desert where they can play games and have fun. In this childhood memories book they make pretend houses, drive cares, bake, and bury the dead. The Roxaboxen story would be a fun book to encourage students to read for their own enjoyment. This is probably one of the popular kids picturebooks because it used descriptive language and I was able to relate to the characters in the way that they sought new adventure.

Roxaboxen was all about using your imagination to create something out of nothing. Or at least what seemed to be nothing to others. In the Roxaboxen pictures Marian and friends use rocks, sand, sticks and other objects to make a whole little town called Roxaboxen. In the childhood memories picture book even had jobs and acted like they rode on horses. The great war is one of the picturebooks best and dramatic moments. Even as they aged, they all still remembered Roxaboxen and how much fun it was for them. Definitely one of the great picture books about friendship.
