This system can certainly be confusing at times and you may not know the best gems to get either. Hopefully this video helps out with that! Look forward to more guide content soon.

aw thanks for the shoutout dude <3
if you want debuff resist (and double attack, the sauros also drop those as well) 6s early in yours 50s or so you can do a little trick with demon slayer. there's a sauros that walks in the path through around where breezy zolos is. you can find a random eks there, fight it, aggro the sauros while it's walking by, start a chain and kill the eks with demon slayer to topple the sauros, and then topple lock him. topple plus gems aren't really necessary but they're very useful, so is leveling up your toppling arts. i recommend having seven reyn and dunban. you can technically beat him without needing to topple him that early but it requires a bunch of grinding for gems and it's just a lot easier to use demon slayer.
remember everyone: strength up (and other stat gems as well) are normally pretty crap by lategame. enel just has them on cause he like da big numbers on his screen
keep in mind that agility and night vision, while powerful, won't affect ether arts at all. so melia and sharla have pretty much no use for them, and if you're primarily going ether riki then he doesn't really need them as well. agility can be still worth it against yellow tagged enemies since starlight combo is great and it does help with evasion, but once you're fighting superbosses and stuff a single agility gem isn't gonna make much difference, esp since melia and sharla's base agility are both pretty low. instead for hit rate, link melia's enlightenment and maybe even riki's Bullseye! for as much ether accuracy as possible.
the part about actually making the gems is pretty on point im not really sure if theres anything too important i can add. one note is that people who don't have maxed affinity yet and don't want to spend several times using riki and sharla to develop the crystals to close to 99 can use a medium flame combo (like melia seven) in order to develop low value cylinders quickly. just be wary that at max affinity they're probably gonna get it to over 100 pretty easily, which is the opposite of what you want.
to be honest you don't _really_ need two spike defense gems, 75% is usually more than enough to make most spike damage coming your way negligible unless you're fighting some very specific enemies with huge spikes.
the gems you mentioned are pretty great overall, there's a few niche ones for certain builds that you missed but for a general "quality" setup it's good. one armor gem that can be pretty useful for certain enemies is topple resist. you can get them from the gogols at bionis leg and at max, they'll give you a 100% immunity to, as you might assume, topple. on the topic of other great endgame gems that are a bit more niche you're probably gonna want poison plus and chill plus for melia and riki in particular since it'll boost their arts by a huge amount and increase melia's dps in particular by a ton.
while haste as a gem is fantastic, you're probably not gonna put it on your weapons too often since there's a free one on armor with the glory gauntlets/speed 4 and 5 frames.
great thing about night vision 6 is that once you're max leveled, you don't need any night vision to fight daedala since he's only 6 levels above you at that point. so once you're around there feel free to take him on and skip the trading. otherwise night vision 5 is still totally viable.

I feel like such an idiot. I've played this since the Wii version.
I never once thought about using Sharla and Riki to purposefully suck at crafting so that they waste it all on gentle flames and then you can cylinder individual traits. That's SO SMART.

You are a guide making machine. I'm so glad DE has given rise to the high quality guides for Xenoblade 1.

When I got my Switch three years back I watched a ton of your guides to understand Xenoblade 2 and it helped me enjoy the game even more. Three years later and your still doing the same with the original. The love you have for these games can be felt and makes me wanna play them even more. Have a good day Enel

14:15 just casually thanking an Outer God for teaching him Xenoblade strats.

But very useful guide I'm looking forward to more. As someone who played Xenoblade 2 first it's nice to get some tips for this battle system

if anyone doesn't know, once you get past a certain part of the story (early in the game), you'll be able to make a portable gem crafting machine. Once you get to this point, just talk to the Gem Crafting Man in Colony 9 and you'll be able to start the quest to unlock it. It's better for those who don't want to keep skipping back to the Gem Stall in Colony 9 all the time.

Shoutouts to Seven for being the best way to craft things, like she already was my favorite to play but this was just icing on the cake

Riki and reyn will make 325+ on heat gauge if you start around 110. Riki and melia can raise 4 gems to 300 on heat gauge if they all are around 185-199. Assuming max party affinity.

Even though I'm familiar with most of this stuff already, you've got such a great way of communicating info that I'm enjoying watching these anyway!

Dang that’s actually helpful. When I played through the game on Wii I kind of just put on whatever gems I had and didn’t craft that much

I just have to say this:
Riki is way better than Shulk as a shooter, he gives you double the effects of everything so using RikiReyn combo while crafting is way better, (generally gets you 300-500%) it also allows you to use less good crystals as materials (ive gotten mega heat from materials that started at 60%)

Something i've found consistant after using sharla and riki to make cylinders is to use Riki and Reyn as the gem crafting process happens twice due to rikis ability.

Great videos. Played the og a decade ago but never used Melia or crafted much as I was new to jrpgs and didn't want to be overwhelmed. I finished the game but wasn't satisfied I learned all I could. This time I shall.

My man knows his STUFF!
Haven't really played too far into the game due to work being a pain recently, but I will be coming back to these awesome guides. Not gonna lie, your content makes me both enjoy and appreciate this franchise so much more.

I don't have much trouble in battle since my characters are at level 87. My favorite gems are Quick Step because it takes SO LONG to run/swim around places. Especially when I'm trying to complete the map of Eryth Sea or going back and forth to Zazadan for his never-ending quests

12:33 you can also link Steel Protection from Dunban or Rejection of Evil from Melia's 5th skill branch for max reduction while only using one Spike Defence gem, they do cost quite a bit of Affinity Coins though, so IMO it's not worth it since Affinity coins are in high demand. It does makes Dunban even better for taking on Daedala and Belgazas.
