Introduction to Literary Genres-7th Grade Lesson

This was a lesson I video taped for my Master's program in International Education. This lesson marks the beginning of our unit on literary genres. In this part of the lesson I used a PowerPoint to introduce 9 different genres to the students. Prior to this the students had small group discussion about the prior knowledge on the topic. My goal for this lesson was to have better pacing and end each activity on time. In the end we had a good discussion, but the bell rang before I could finish the PowerPoint. Because this class lasted for two blocks, I was able to continue after giving them a five min. break. After this lecture the students worked together in small groups to investigate sample text in order to figure out each text's genre. This one of my favorite classes Jincai International school in Shanghai. I think they did a very good job!
