got the mk4 golf 1.8T (AUM) engine myself from 150 to 180 BHP...leather recaro seats...008P forge diverter valve and numerous other upgrades...one of the best cars to drive for sure

I have a Golf 1.6 2002, 1.6 (EA111 engine) and even today, it's an excellent car, here in Brazil this was the second generation that landed here, but we still consider it as an MK4. It was manufactured here from 2000 until 2006, soon after we had the Golf MK4, 5 which was the restyled MK4 and equipped for the first time with a Flex engine (ethanol/gasoline) this version was exported to Canada and called Golf City, around here this version was sold until 2013.

I can see the strugle with popping it in first. Try, when trying to put it in first gear, with the clutch pressed, first sliding it in second gear and then slide it back into first. Because of the alignment of the gears it should slide back in without trouble. At least that's what I do in my Astra G with a similar first gear issue and it works everytime and also is gentle on the gearbox than just forcing it in. Merry Christmas!

You can make a first gear getter (fix the first gear) with a little rubber hose part and a safety pin...mine works as a charm....
