Swiss German story

Today we will learn some Swiss-German through stories. I personally think that learning through stories can be a very effective way to learn a new language. Here are some other short stories in Swiss German:

This one is about a couple from canton Zurich who had some problems with sleeping. I found the story quite amusing. When my student told me what had happened to her I decided to make a short summary of her experience.

Growing up, my favorite part was listening to audio stories on my tapes. Also, my grandfather was a very good storyteller. Every time when we visited him, after a delicious meal and a dessert we would sit around the table and would listen to his fascinating stories. It goes without saying the story was in Swiss German. My aunt would share a story from her workplace, which at that time was a hospital in Zurich. My mother would tell a story when she decided to leave Switzerland and work in Africa. For me, it was great to listen to those stories told by adults at the table. I was literally absorbing every word I heard.

Now teaching Swiss German in my Swiss Online language school I keep using stories to teach my students new skills.

I believe learning through stories can enrich your vocabulary, help you develop imagination, and learn a new language much faster.

Do I have to learn German of Germany before I start with Swiss German and deal with it as a dialect? Or can I learn it immediately without preceding steps?
