Furthermore, Şehzade Suleiman had no other siblings to rival for the throne. So as said, this all was presented to him on a golden plate.

During his long reign, which lasted for 46 years after his accession to the throne, the Ottoman Empire experienced many breaking moments, both good and bad. Of course, one of them is the execution of Şehzade Mustafa, which everyone knows. Though at that time and even today, everyone argued that Şehzade Mustafa had deserved the most to ascend the throne.

But because of destiny, or the manipulation of others, the succession left in the favor of Şehzade Selim. But between these two names, there was the favorite son of Sultan Suleiman, who faded in the shadows of ottoman history.

Sehzade Mehmed was also the purest amongst the other princes. But he was ignored by other pashas because they favored Sehzade Mustafa of course for their own benefits. He was not much popular because he was born 5 years later from Mustafa. Thats why Mehmed didnt have many supporters because Mustafa already was at Manisa, maybe thats the reason why Sultan Suleyman send Mehmed to Manisa to also gain supporters.Imagine in the council everyone ignoring him and praising Mustafa still he stand strong and kept quiet because he was mature enough. Mehmed was his favourite because he was the first born with the wife he actually loved and that was Hurrem Sultana, and the way Suleyman called him sultan infront of his brothers may lead to theory that all the brothers collaborated to kill him by poisioning him with smallpox since he was his father favourite but no one knowd. Not much is known about his harem life but some say that Esmahan Sultana (daughter of Sah Sultana) married him. He also had a daughter named Humashah Sultana (Huma), she was raised by Hurrem Sultana, Mihrimah Sultana and her cousine Ayse Humashah Sultan (daughter of Mihrimah) . She was also a powerful princess and presented Safiye Hatun (later Safiye Sultan) to Sehzade Murad (future Sultan Murad III) as a gift. She also had translated a book for astrologies. She always sent letters to her grandfather Suleyman. Humashah collabored with her cousine Ayse Sultana against Nurbanu Sultana since they were enemies of her. Atleast he Prince Mehmed had a powerful daughter Humashah Sultana who lived up for her father's name.

Mehmed was never jealous of mustafa although janniseries and every pasha wanted mustafa to to take the throne. Mehmet was the most pateint when he was not sent to his province. He had no greed for throne and supported mustafa for throne. He always was happy for his brother success.
But mustafa was always jealous of Mehmet success and was sad of his success.
Throne goes to the most capable one.
One may love his son but thinking of his dynatsky a sultan wants most capable one to take throne. It is said according to historian that 2 years rule of Mehmet in manisia were more prosperous than mustafa's rule. It was prosperous, it was why no one in manasia protested and demanded him to be replaced by mustafa again. But sadly he died. No one was like him. There is always a reason which makes one live him more. Suleiman called him my sultan Mehmet
