IOS XR Introduction

Brian McGahan - CCIE #8593 (R&S/Service Provider/Security) introduces Cisco's IOS XR hardware and software interface.

At 46:50 or so - It was noted that you can't do multiple pipes. This may hold true, but if you encapsulate that with quotes, it will work.
Failed example shown:
RP/0/0/CPU0:XR1#sh run | include ipv4 address|interface
^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

What it should look like to get a match:
RP/0/0/CPU0:XR1#sh run | include "ipv4 address|interface"

And some of IOS-XR developers are old Junos developers. Junos came out way before IOS-XR

IOS-XR is great! When I first encountered it, I thought it was just Junos for IOS engineers. Which obviously they borrowed a lot of the same concepts. I just wish they would put this on all of their devices and not just the service provider products. I'm tired of dealing with all of their different IOS versions. Now you have IOS, IOS-XE, IOS-XR and ASA versions. Just make one damn train already, where all the commands work on all the platforms and the same syntax. I realize not every feature set would be there, but come on, make it standard. IOS-XR is great, and Junos is great, just make that shit standard.

Junos initially released in 1998. IOS-XR initially released in 2004. You saying they waited 6 whole years to release?

What I've noticed (using IOS XR 4.3), you can do multiple pipes, but the problem with this example is that he forgot the command after the second pipe.

For example, it should be:
RP/0/0/CPU0:XR1#sh run | include ipv4 address | include interface

Or, you can use the quotes, as you have shown.

I get this strange feeling that cisco is trying to copy Juniper in this new IOS. some commands look similar to juniper. like "commit" when original cisco was "copy run start" or "write mem". Anyway. Probably a smart idea to copy Juniper because they are kicking cisco's ass in ISP market

No... they were developed in the same time, but juniper introduced first to the public.

don't u know that Juniper's developers were CISCO developers in the past ? The commit command for example was originally created by cisco, not juniper.
