No One's Talking About Russia's New Tank

In the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine, there have been reports of a strange sight rolling its way across the battlefield. On several occasions, Ukrainian forces have encountered Russian tanks that are covered in what can only be described as a metal shed. Made from what appears to be thin metal sheets, the bizarre outer shell of the tank has led internet pundits to give them a number of names, such as the Shed Tank, Barn Tank, and Turtle Tank, among other, less flattering names

Just want to appreciate a small detail I noticed. At about 5:30, when they're welding the humvee. the guy who isn't wearing glasses, his eyes turn red when they start welding, then the other guy puts his sun glasses on.

The Turtle tank actually looks like the Killdozer but a tank

People underestimate wartime economics:

That little scrap metal is substantially cheaper then a constant flow of drones

Rumor has it that they are saving stalinium for the next batch of tanks

There was a case of tanks covered in wood outer shells, with 12 inches gaps, in the Philippines if I recall correctly. it was to make the shaped charge of an rpg detonate early, as it's effectiveness would drastically decrease with the plasma blast loosing energy through the wood and air before hitting the steel

The tank proved itself to be effective in attracting all enemy fire to itself from rpgs and drones while also clearing out positions and mines, other armoured vehicles would be close behind to do their job without worrying about enemy fire, now that the turtle tanks or as the russians call it, ,the tsar's grill" has drawn all of the enemies attack onto itself

when nato implements it: revolutionary concept

2:37 This munition can destroy the thin outer shield but the main armour is designed to protect tank against it.

The turtle tank concept started with the DPR forces (mostly made up of locals from the eastern parts of Ukraine that is pro-russian), they have always been more underarmed compared to the russian armed forces which has led to them always looking at "ghetto"-style solutions to problems on the battlefield. This turtle design they made was actually super successful because it led an assault that marked the first meaningful advance around Krasnohorivka in a long time.

Personally I like the word "battering tank" more, because that's the main purpose of it. Be at the head of the column, clear mines, soak incoming projectiles (mainly by a large margin FPV drones), make a hole in the line and then the column follows up on its success. It was never meant to help against artillery or something like a javelin, because the purpose was to launch an armored assault and be quick in order to avoid effective artillery, advanced anti-tank systems though will obviously knock it out. But FPV drones and artillery is the largest threat on the battlefield in Ukraine, and it's made to counter both, which it doesn't do perfectly but at least it's a cheap improvement.

Just think about it logically, your tank gets tasked with being the front tank.. would you want to cover your tank up with more defense making it harder for FPV drones to penetrate weak spots? I think the answer is obvious lol.

Oh, yeah, the classic "Blyatmobile" or "turtle tank" has come to action, but the "Tutel" tank is best!!!

2 Corrections i have to mention for this vido.

1. The vast majority of anti tank weapons work with HEAT or Tandem rounds which simply means its either a beam created by the explosion of the round that cuts into the tank or that paired with a explosive round that destroys the reactive armor of a tank befor the shaped charge takes effect. This sort of ammunition is easily negated by the layered protection of these tanks including something like a javelin if its any of the itterations that has a reinforced top with not just wooden boards and some wire mesh but as seen in some examples, actual concret roofs.

2. These DIY project tanks arent intended to face off in combat, most carry some ammunition since as mentioned their main armament due to the construct around them essentially functions like a WW2 tank destroyer. However they are still capable and sometimes intended to face off against infantry by i.e lobbing high explosive rounds into buildings or trenches, treelines etc. whilst drawing anti tank fire allowing APCs and IFVs to deploy their troops with less risk of losing said vehicles and their crew to anti tank fire. Similar works for drones, instead of having a cheap FPV drone destroy tanks or drop explosives into infantry mounted on a vehicle or onto one stranding infantry in the middle of an open field in the eye of an enemy MG emplacement, these tanks block drones from getting close whilst remaining mostly invurnerable to said drones and most anti tank weapons essentially having them function more as support vehicles like engineering vehicles since as seen in the video they can be equipped with EOD tools like a mine flail essentially turning them into a hard to kill mine clearing vehicle that can take charge towards enemy positions through mine fields or anti tank fire. Still any tank or strong anti tank weapon like most guided anti tank missiles can destroy them with a well placed hit to the front since these older tank models dont have the strongest frontal armor.

People are being misinformed. Russia made modifications to a couple t72s and one t62 for use of mine clearing, and scouting out areas. If i remember correctly one of the modified t72s (which didnt have any ammo) had an inoperable horizontal drive, so it was converted to become a mine clearer. The guns are NOT intended to be used in these types of modifications.

Why is he saying there are "reports of" these tanks? There's a zillion videos of these in action...

0:06 I thought this was an old school final fantasy attack animation at first. 9999 damage. Tank sprite turns red and dissolves out with the wooshing sound
