If you want nightmare duel as maxwell why not just trap a bunch of rabbits, put them on a raft, and use shadow sneak to make them nightmare rabbits and kill them for fuel? That’s what I’ve always done

Actually, his sneak spell that you didn't mention, can convert bunnies into hair bunnies that drop nightmare fuel, even in cases when they shouldn't. Making fuel no longer an issue.

The ability to farm nightmare fuel from rabbits was such a good addition. I always thought the bottomless well of sanity would be super convenient, but sanity is a double edged sword, you either spend every waking moment of your life fighting nightmare creatures and have more nightmare fuel than you'll ever know what to do with, or you don't have nightmare fuel when you need it, now we have a way to farm fuel without staying insane

Pro tip: If you want to lose sanity on maxwell (and anyone else) quickly, build an lazy deserter at your base, even when playing solo. One activation decreases sanity by 15, and you can do it infinitely and really fast. So like in 5 seconds you can go down from full sanity to 0.

A good way to go insane as max is to plant a bunch of trees or go to a clustered forest, and spawn 6 workers. Now you're capped at 20 sanity, so you're insane till your workers are finished. So you get plenty of wood and nightmare fuel. (Also I'm not entirely sure but unless it already spawned or you go even lower in sanity, terrorbeaks won't spawn, so you just get easy crawling horrors to kill instead)

Speaking of boss battles, a good tip for the twins I have is to fight them on Lunar Island. Not only do you get nearby light from the fissures, but you don't have to worry about going insane, so you can spam cages till they die. You'll probably need a lot of nightmare fuel though

Also late game you can set up a shadow pieces farm to farm hundreds of nightmare fuel, dark swords and night armor. I could explain it, but it's probably better if you look up a video on it instead

You can gather fuel by shadow sneaking rabbits to turn them into beardlings for a guaranteed fuel drop, same for Bunnymen and splumonkies, why does no one talk about shadow sneak, it literally can scare a bishop long enough to where it doesn’t fight back before you kill it?
