Finland Culture Shock #21: Shoes off in Finland #shorts #finland

Growing up in an Asian culture, it is ingrained in me that outdoor shoes are never allowed inside.

This is also why it shocked me to learn that in Finland, this is also a common practice.

What I initially noticed is that there’s always a place at the hallway for outdoor shoes and Finns would take their shoes off by instinct before entering anyones home.

What I don’t know is, why do Finns do this? Is there a particular reason behind it?

Because back home, we take our shoes off as a sign of respect to the house.

It just amazes me that there’s one thing between our culture that is similar.
