You know things are really bad when even doctors feel like they need to unionize to get fair wages.

$11M, because understaffing and not paying your workers to increase profits is hard work.

And this is why healthcare should not be a for profit industry

The CEO makes over $200, 000 a week. One week. Thats a house for some folks. One week. The disparity is sickening. People can't afford health care because of CEO's like him. He must think a lot of himself while so many suffer.

When doctors feel the need to go on strike? Do we need any more evidence that the system is badly stacked against employees?

Corporate greed is pervading every aspect of our lives. It's horrifying.

Who’d of thought corporations running healthcare would focus on profits over actual healthcare?

We need to get rid of for profit medical care. It’s such conflict of interest!

Providence nurse here, happy to stand in solidarity with our doctors. You deserve to work under fair employment standards, and the corporate management of Providence has made it clear that they value their shareholders more than their patients and employees. I've seen half of the caregivers on my floor either transfer or leave the entire organization this year because of Providence's clear messaging that they want caregivers to have zero influence in how staffing plans are designed. We're not just fighting for fair-market pay, we're demanding safe and fair staffing practices!

People don't understand that doctors don't make as much money as they think, and that when doctors or nurses strike, it is often because patient care is being compromised. All of that so CEO's can enrich themselves. This is from a former RN

I back up these doctors. They should also be able to treat a patient as they the DOCTOR see fit....not some executives rule on how to "care for" people

Just let the CEO take over surgery, I mean at 10.5 million, he's obviously the most qualified to do so... The US has the most expensive healthcare system in the world, I wonder why...and people can still go broke if they get sick

I used to work at a children’s hospital. It was heartbreaking to see the sick children and to hear about when some would die. It always made me sick to my stomach watching the execs walk around like it was their castle with their nice cars and nice clothes knowing that the money that paid for their lifestyles was taken from starving parents and sick children

Board members at hospitals should not make more than doctors.

Still as true as ever today.

I’ve seen overworked and understaffed nurses quietly sobbing at their stations because they were stretched so thin and they were struggling to keep up with the needs of their patients who they genuinely care about. It’s a safety issue and a labor issue. Patients and professionals are both getting squeezed by the cartels of insurance companies and so-called ‘health care’ conglomerates. Health care is a calling, and it is a noble profession. The professionals should be paid fairly. But overall it should never be a for profit business when those dollars should be going towards saving lives.

Have hospitals always had CEOs? When did this become a thing? My mom was a surgical tech for 48 yr in S. FL & I remember there being a board of doctors & nurses that worked there making policy & employee regs. The docotors were chosen by the entire staff and could only be on the board a total of 6 yrs

Big business has no business being involved in healthcare. Providence sucks.

As an Oregon resident who goes to Providence, I support this strike! I get OT at my cruddy machining job that doesn't pay me enough that I qualify for OHP! If my low paying job has a better pay structure and coverage than what's _supposed_ to be a community pillar then there's something wrong going on!
