Here is a kit with an IR laser and detector. This transmits a signal though the air. Like fiber optics without the fiber.

Tip for wicking wick. Dip the wick in flux. I alway have better results when the wick had flux applied to it. Alway clean your tips after touching the wick with the tip. As the residue from the wick tend to eat my tip coatings alive. I actually use a old tip when using solder wick.

Cable BW is usually very asymmetrical. Typically the higher download BW will have 20Mb upload, but 10Mb isn't unheard of.

IMSAI Guy, you have excellent PCB assembly skills! It is clear that this was not your "first rodeo" with assembling an electronic kit. What a nice and clean job you did building the two (2) circuit boards! Unfortunately, the wireless laser audio transmitter and receiver set is not quite up to audiophile quality... LOL Fred
