As the second anniversary of Russia’s fullscale onslaught on Ukraine approaches, 2024 is setting up to be the most challenging year yet for Kyiv and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Opposition politicians say Zelenskyy’s “autocratic tendencies” need to be checked to preserve Ukraine’s democracy and have called for a government of national unity. The opposition agrees that no elections are possible until after “Russia is defeated,” but MP Oleksiy Goncharenko told DW’s Tim Sebastian that Zelenskyy would lose if he were to stand in elections after the war is over. Goncharenko also warned that Moscow is more dangerous and more unhinged than it was before the invasion and said the only question to be asked if Russia was not stopped in Ukraine would be where next.

His key-phrase is at the end: “ Believing promises of other nations was a mistake. If you want keeping to exist, you have to be strong!”

“Russia is more dangerous than two years ago” as it should be since those shovels and washing machines chips did wonders

This guy is very adept at handling tough questions and carrying his message across. I have rarely seen Tim interview someone so persuasive.

Why don’t you have Zelensky on your program and ask him these questions?

Love how from the dark side of power these sociopaths are feeding conspiracies to prepare what they want

I said a year ago that Goncharenko is on a mission to become president himself. Now I´m more convinced about that than ever. Zelensky has his flaws but I strongly dislike Goncharenko and I believe he would be worse.

As "expert" Richard Kemp says:
February 2023- "Total Russian collapse is surprisingly close"
May 2023- "Putin is terrified of the Ukrainian counter-offensive"
July 2023- "Russian time is almost run out"
December 2023- "Ukraine is losing "

Listening to Oleksiy Goncharenko quite frankly makes me sick to my stomach. As he said, Ukraine is a democry, but as a country at war, and indeed a war for survival, it behooves everybody to line up behind the leader until victory has been achieved, whenever that is. Zelensky as a war leader has to my mind, accomplished results above and beyond most expectations. Whether or not Zelensky will be president post victory, is the sole choice of the Ukrainian people and not Olekseiy Goncharenko. Creating internal strife and doubts only serves to weakens Ukraine internally and externally.

Sabastian said, " your troop average age is 43, you need younger troops?" he is implying by recruiting more younger Ukrainians, younger Ukrainians will sacrifice their lives on Behalf of other Europeans in the EU who are living comfortably in their homes.

easy for you to say and criticize. Zelensky stood up when he can just loot and go away. you can not change leadership on the time of war.

It's a war, people need to support one leader. doesn't matter if you like him or not. Things will take too long to compromise with every ones personal agendas. you need one goal and everyone united towards that goal. This guy is probably self interested or getting paid to cause division. I don't have the tools, but if someone follows the money i'm sure you'll find the answer.

Many (including myself) did not think that Ukraine would last two weeks against Rusia, let alone two years. I think that oddly, Zelensky was the right man for the job. He has done well with a very poor hand. My guess is that the Oligarchs in Ukraine would be happy to see him gone.

Yes staying alive is number one priority. Very sobering comment on Oleksiy Goncharenko's part.

Zelensky has done better than we could have ever expected. But surely he has a good point on changing the tactics. Also keep in mind the war would have a huge toll on any leader. Zelensky is no exeption. Ukraine needs all of the support from the world and it's leaders. Someone bullying another should not be tolerated.
