As an atheist, I reckon Frank "was never a true atheist". I feel confident that this is a perfectly fair thing to say, despite knowing nothing about him, because I have been told several times that I "was never a true Christian" by Christians who know nothing about me.

I am so glad you tackled this topic! It bothers me to no end when a theist calls in to an atheist show like The Atheist Experience and says they used to be an atheist. I can't argue it without sounding like the No True Scotsman Fallacy but you did it well!

Its my belief that people who talk like this were never atheists. I know its kind of a "no true scotsman fallacy" but still. These people strawman what atheism and atheists think. It comes off as very disingenuous.

So many apologist have a story about how they were once atheist and set out to disprove God but their search ended up proving God. Josh McDowell’s well rehearsed story comes to mind. Just see Kip Davis expose that one.

In my experience, when someone says they used to be an atheist, it means they stopped going to church for some amount of time that seems like an excessively long time to them. Or they stopped praying regularly. Or they left their old congregation and had a hard time finding a new one that appealed to them enough to start going there regularly.
I’m sure that the rare atheist becomes a theist. Rarer still would be the atheist who became a Christian. But in general, I would guess these conversion stories are fabricated, to reassure people that their beliefs are compelling and not the product of their own indoctrination.

I have always thought that the line "You are an atheist because you hate God" is a proof of the sloppy thinking of those who promulgate it." You hate something that you don't think exists" is about as sloppy as it gets.

PragerU honestly perpetuates the most ridiculous and stupid ideas I've ever seen on this platform yet they have amassed a plethora of viewers and subscribers, Seeing it get blasted and destroyed like this really gives me hope for the intelligence of humanity.

After becoming atheist I did eventually go back to church because I found more Christian women willing to have sex than there were atheist women in the whole country. In fact I married the first atheist woman I dated. 37th anniversary next month.
