Taylor has always fascinated me. He was one of the largest slaveholders in the country, yet took a strong stand against the expansion of slavery as President. Things would of been very different had he not died so unexpectedly. Some may argue it would of been for the better.

He's underrated. If he had lived longer, he could have been Lincolnesque.

Didn’t talk about his Mexican War career much. That’s really what catapulted him to the Presidency. Taylor is very easy to dismiss, but he was probably the first President who really stood up to the slavery expansionists while he was in office.

It's amazing how many times I've heard that one of these Presidents is not a remarkable person and borderline boring.

I realize this was originally a podcast, but as it was presented here as a production of the Washington Post, it would have been an appropriate addition to have had period newspaper headlines, drawings, historical paintings, political ads, caricatures and satirical pieces to view instead of the monotonous visual display provided.
