The 2012 performance is from the VGAs, which Keighley helped produce and was scored by Lorne Balfe, who conducts The Game Awards Orchestras, so it fits! 2020's orchestra was performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Abbey Road Studios due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I think 2024 might be favourite version so far!

But man, listening back to the Metroid Dread theme, Super Mario Wonder theme, and RE2's theme, those are still some of the best orchestral renditions!

The Game Awards has a lot of issues that they could fix, but one thing I always look forward to and never disappoint are the orchestra they have for the GOTY category, the 2020 and 2022 ones are my favorites, so powerful and emotional (I almost get teary eyed when I listen to the “weight of life” bit).
I hope they never stop doing these, because they’re so worth it

2020, despite its overall turbulence, will always hold a place in my heart as the overall feeling during the entirety of quarantine was probably best explain through that year's medley, starting with the heaviest themes from gaming that particular year, and by ending on Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it was like a little beacon of light telling me, "yeah, this past year was rough, but we're gonna be alright."

I have no idea if the algorithm is gonna do this justice but the timestamps and song names are such a nice feature. Anyway I know that they've started putting Pedro front and center because of the reaction he got in 2022, but honestly it's so cool to see when the performers are getting into it. Or even when the camera just shows a section in sinc (the french horns at 30:32 scratch my brain). Music is so cool.

PS: If I'm not mistaken, this year (2024) they returned to the orchestra as it was until 2021, that is, without that music that plays constantly in the background, which makes each song sound unique.
