On the one hand, cruelty towards homosexuals in generations past was a terrible injustice. On the other, general acceptance has proven destructive.

Again with the first bit about the efforts to disentangle homosexuality from it’s accompanying connotations: as Mary Harrington has said about homosexuality having acceptability if takes the form of bourgeois monogamy (her words), the thrust of gender ideology/queer theory has been to either reentangle those connotations of deviancy or reveal that they were always part-and-parcel of it and that efforts to say otherwise were essentially a ruse.

They not only disentangled the bundle but made simple acknowledgement of the existence of the unsavory bits a severe taboo.
