During the quarantine my wife was stuck at home and was looking for someone to give her opera lessons. Ekaterina was offering lessons via Skype for a very reasonable price, and my wife spent about two years with her, taking her voice from great to amazing. I told her to take as many lessons from her as she can because once Ekaterina gets too famous she’s probably gonna stop giving lessons. And she did! 😂 But we’re not mad at her. She’s amazing and one of the best teachers in the world.

Not come across Ekaterina before - rather impressive. It would appear that she was born in Kaliningrad, a Russian exclave on the Baltic Sea, but, has lived in Canada since a young age and is opera trained.

Her family moved to Canada when she was 6. She went through high school there, then moved to Italy where she got her Masters in music, specializing in opera. And she speaks and sings in English with almost no accent.

Hi Ric, that sounds like Eivør Pálsdóttir, a singer from Lofoten. Here is a link. From 2:10 minutes it sounds very similar.
It sounds like old traditional music. If I understand correctly, that's not it. Eivør wrote these songs.

Ekaterina's voice sounds like it was classically trained. These are very clean, high tones, which she hits in a very controlled manner.
But the songs are a very unique and rare genre. The voice is excellent. The music is nice but I wouldn't want to listen to it every day. I definitely need a certain mood for that. But that should not detract from the vocal performance. Please understand correctly. That's a great achievement.
