It's sad for NYC as well as north America. I used to listen to them 60 years ago, and I will miss the station.

That is crazy sad. Here in Montreal, I am a frequent listener. Not easy for me to pick up during the day, but early in the morning and late at night it has provided me with listening enjoyment. 880 will be sadly missed.

I grew up listening to News Radio 88 since the 60’s. I will certainly miss it.

I will miss 880 WCBS as an all-news station. I found myself listening to it more than 1010 WINS. As for the new format, it's more of a frequency change for ESPN New York. Their programming will be moving from 98.7 to 880 due to the upcoming end of their lease with WEPN-FM.

This is absolutely unbelievable. WCBS was one of the stations I would always catch nightly as a young lad in bed turning the AM dial. An iconic east coast station. Really sad. I like sports but ESPN radio I certainly do not. They're everywhere. 👎

Disney ESPN’ owner ruining another hot property, then complaining their stock price tanking. RIP WCBS.
73! Have a great day!

That’s too bad. I can still pick up WOR and 770. AM radio was so much better 50 years ago. 77 WABC was where I heard the Beatles in Feb of 1964.

Sad to hear the format is going away. I am near Philadelphia and we still have the All News station KYW 1060 AM. It broadcasts a big signal at night. It is simulcast on 103.9 FM now and I worry how long they will keep the AM broadcast.
So long CBS 880.

This is tragic. Why quit on a station that is successful and that contributes so much to our understanding of REAL news. I will greatly miss the anchors and the traffic/weather on the 8's!

Wither KNX. 08/26/2024 will be remembered as the last day of American radio.

On the bright side, it's nice that 99.5 FM Montreal is launching a news station on the same date, August 26. It's not comforting, however, that they will be broadcasting QUB radio programming.

WBZ in Boston is all news. I like it better than WINS. They will be missed

Sad news that another all-news station is going off the air.

A staple of radio fare for me during the Cold War and evening commutes. What a disgrace.

I wonder why they gave up on the callsign instead of just keeping it for ESPN radio? ESPN radio format in itself has been under heavy decline for years now also and WFAN dominates the sports talk in New York. Edit: WCBS FM will continue on 101.1 playing classic rock.

What a shame. Profit ruins another experience.

That's sad. Not even keeping the old call letters. WCBS is one of those clear channel stations that most of the east coast gets at night. Its particularly clear and stable in DC. WINS, not so much. Another ESPN radio station huh? (yawn).

This came out of nowhere for me. I've never really listened to WCBS-AM, but what they want to do doesn't make any sense. I know there's already a news station on 1010 in New York City, but isn't there also already an ESPN affiliate on 1050? Oh, wait! 1050 is ESPN in New York City, but it's in Spanish, isn't it? I'm not trying to be ironic, sarcastic, or hateful. I'm literally just asking.
