Eddie actually didn't want credit or compensation because when Quincy Jones called him he thought it was a prank call and hung up on him. When Quincy Jones called back Eddie apologized and agreed to do it for a case of beer.

I love that Michael Jackson didn't get offended that Eddie Van Halen changed his song, but he understood that a fresh perspective was needed and that someone who was equally as talented had a great idea. The ego wasn't bruised. Then Eddie Van Halen didn't need credit, he just wanted to help another amazing artist with his work. Great song.

When you listen to Michael Jackson's stories about when he records his albums or collaborations, all those facts make you think that he was just a kid in the music business, he seemed to love every moment he was in a studio, on a stage or when doing his choreographies, that man was passion incarnate.

Regardless of Michael's issues, I met him in 1995. He came to my restaurant in Chicago. His manager asked if there was a private dining room and we had one. No one saw Michael and was able to eat his meal in peace. He was so happy he signed autographs for me and my entire staff and I got a photograph with him. He was very kind.
