Lost Dog street band, 'I went down to Georgia' // GemsOnVHS™

Lost Dog street band filmed on their property in Chapel Hill, TN. This song was written by their friend Nicholas Ridout, who sadly passed away. Some time ago, his wife Shannon and him used to live in our backyard in a van, with their dog. Those were some of the most memorable days of my life, listening to Ben and Nicholas laughing, fighting and playing music on long summer nights in Tennessee. Majority of proceeds from YouTube ads on this song go to Nicholas' widow, and his music lives on.

2024. I must give the algorithm some love here. Better late than never. This is next level American folk! I’m actually getting emotional.

At 55 seconds she glances at him and smiles and it's such a small and sweet moment. She does it a couple of times in the video. It really makes me happy to see.

Greetings from Suzhou, China! I've been locked in my apartment for the month for coronavirus, and I've pretty much exclusively listened to these guys and Sierra Ferrell. Excellent, excellent, proper folk tunes. Well captured, too, @GemsOnVHS -- seems live and nearby.

I want to thank your friend Nicholas for writing this song. And i want to thank you two for letting it be heard. Summer of 2018, i took a sporadic road trip to Georgia with my brother. This was one of my roadtrip songs. While there, we stayed with our grandpa and uncle (we've never met this uncle due to family disfunction) My uncle was a great man, we bonded quite a bit in the 2 days we were in town. I was looking forward to a relationship with him. Well, 2 weeks after we got back, i got a text at 4am from my grandpa that my uncle commited suicide. A year to date of my uncles death, cancer took my grandfathers. This song brings me close to tears every time i listen to it. I dont know what i was looking for in Georgia, but i know i found it. Live in love everyone, love people others have abandoned. Theyre the ones that need it most. RIP Uncle Mike.

Just imagine the feeling of playing your beat friends song. Singing the lead after having always sung the harmony, and knowing you'll never play it with them again. It's heart breaking

I've watched this video probably 35 times and never realized she looks mad at the end like they were supposed to have a small harmony and he changed his mind and hit a high note haha. great tune.

I listen to this song every morning on the farm before the work begins and the long day seems like a stretch of time inconceivable... and it always moves me.  Know that you at least have one fan in Iowa.

If someones dies or a family pet dies, we tell our children here in Finland that "they were sent to America". I like it, it sounds comforting.
By the time when they grow they'll understand it.

Greetings from across the sea!
And thank you for your channel, it's hard to find this kind of music in Finland.

I am moved so much by this music. My mothers' side of family come from West Virginia coal town. Grampa died of black lung disease. Gramma passed three years ago, just short of 100 years old, almost exact. she was born on a 4th of July. Passed on the 1st. Alzheimers and dementia took her from us at a time when we were only strangers to her. It was devastating for our family. My earliest memories are of Gramma cooking us biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Best meals I ever ate. I feel drawn to this type of folk music. Born from necessity during tough times, when people worked so hard they would have dropped if not for a distraction to allow even momentary escape from a life of hell. I want to be able to let my mom listen to all your wonderful songs. She just turned 82 herself in August. thank you for some fine entertainment. Wish I could do as you two do, so wonderful.

Born and raised in Georgia. I’m in the Army now and I’m in Virginia but this song paints a picture of home for me every time I listen to it. Thank you Benjamin for all the great music you make

I was bumming around Spain when my cousin sent me this and told me it reminded him of me. I fell in love with it. He died of an OD a year later. It’s even more beautiful now it forever reminds me of him

Just saw him tonight in Lexington, Ky... drove 8 hours from Washington, DC... do yourself a favor & listen to this man... he has so much to teach. Consider yourself lucky to hear this.
