The EU General Data Protection Regulation may have significant implications for data protec- tion practices of researchers and donor involvement. Especially so as the regulation provides space for national and EU-level derogations and specifications in areas such as scientific re- search. This panel aims to assess the practical consequences of the GDPR for data sharing with- in the EU with regards to biomedical research, especially biobanking.

• How does the GDPR impact health research in general in the EU?
• What are the main changes in contrast to the Directive?
• How do country derogations influence cross-border data sharing?
• What is the preferred legal basis for processing personal data for research?
