This is the same techniques the chinese and japanese fishermen were engaging in in the coastal waters of Africa. They have decimated their own fishing areas and now traveling the world illegally fishing. Especially the coastal territorial waters of africa countries that lack military naval support/ protection.

Fishing across the globe needs to end for a minimum of 10 years to heal all damage and allow fish stocks and other aquatic animals to grow and to come back from the brink of extinction where humans have driven it. Once ocean life is gone, it is gone and there ain't no more, EVER!

I was a biologist tech that tested water by taking samples like this in creeks and river. they are collecting what we called benthics. by seeing the diversity of the creatures in the area we could see and compare how the water quality affected them. Not 100% sure thats whats going on here but thats my guess.

They use a net with smaller holes to catch the smallest specimens for research. It’s a liner that fits into the big net
