Having driven I-80 countless times over the years, this song cracks me up every time I hear it. For those travelers who are in less of a hurry, try U.S. 6 instead. Aside from three sections where 6 and 80 are the same road, the "Grand Army of the Republic Highway" mostly parallels the interstate, but through *much* more interesting scenery and small towns along the way.

You might also get to spend proportionally more "there's that smell again" time, though...

Reminds of the time we drove my nephew home to Davenport Iowa but being the middle of winter it snow, snow snow wherever you said corn and snowdrift instead of tree! LOL

Brilliant. Love this more than you can know. I am the author of the book Midwest Maize: How Corn Shaped the U.S. Heartland -- and if you're writing a book about corn, you pretty much have to spend time in Iowa. And while there is a bit more to Iowa than corn and hogs, there is certainly a stunning amount of both (more than any other state). The entire nation would be a bit hungrier without Iowa.
