Boat Fire at Wildwood’s Schooner Island Marina
A fire broke out today aboard the boat "Luv-It" at Wildwood’s Schooner Island Marina, a major boating hub located right behind Uries Waterfront Restaurant. The incident began around 12:45 PM, and emergency services are currently on the scene.
The Schooner Island Marina, one of the largest in the Wildwoods, offers year-round boat slips, services, and a fuel dock, which is where the fire is believed to have started. "Luv-It," a 41-foot vessel powered by twin Mercruiser 8.1L S Horizon engines with 370 horsepower each, was docked at the marina’s fuel station when the fire erupted.
The boat, listed for sale at $159,000.
Initial reports suggest that "Luv-It" was refueling when smoke began to emerge, prompting a 911 call. Firefighters from Squad 3 and Station 2 responded immediately, with a first alarm called for additional support.Station 13 fireboats were also dispatched, leading to a second alarm as the fire quickly spread, fueled by a breeze.
The marina staff acted swiftly, shutting down all fuel lines to the dock as soon as the fire was noticed.Despite their efforts, by 1:15 PM, most of the aft section of the boat was engulfed in flames.Firefighters had the blaze mostly under control by 1:55 PM, though smoke continued to rise from the charred remains of the vessel.
Fortunately, according to the Coast Guard, all individuals on board have been safely accounted for.An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Thank you to our amazing first responders who were able to control the fire to just this one boat.
