"you have to make sure this goes as low as possible"

but -140 is lower than 0

Finally another one of these. I saw this cool code along time ago but forgot it and I haven’t been able to find it again until now.

I’ll just struggle with the bars, but thanks

He’s talking about the RSRP honestly it depends on the carrier, but usually stays around -80 as a common place. This is also the menu that engineers and technicians use to see the signal quality. It also depends on what frequency you’re connected to. Hope this helps.

This is built in all phones. I use work as an RF engineer for one of the big four telecommunications companies, and we use to do this for both android and IPhone. The rsrp is your received power strength but in reality it’s according to the PCI (physical cell ID). Each site has different azimuths point at different directions and each azimuth is organized in sectors. In one sector you can have multiple LTE carriers. Meaning different LTE signals being transmitted at different frequency bands. The issue here is that if you don’t really have a PCI map around you then you don’t really have any idea what that means or which site is serving you. In my experience that can be a cell far away that is not contained. So when you’re in the field looking for cell performance you can go a long time searching for it if the area is not well optimized. So this setting doesn’t really help you if you’re not an engineer trying to improve service and you don’t have a map of the network with LTE PCI numbers. Also some site may have matching PCIs which can make this whole situation harder. This is referred as PCI collisions and it trips up your service.

It’s “*3001#12345#*“ (no quotation marks) for people like me who can’t remember numbers for the life of them.

Edit: some of y’all saying that it’s “3001#12345#” but that doesn’t work for my phone, so it may be carrier dependent.

I thought you said you were going to ‘turn the bars into the numbers’. The bars never change, you just show a menu with the numbers, but it doesn’t stay in the top bar as you implied.

There’s apps with widgets you can download to show this same info, much more at a glance…

If this wasn’t a short I’d be able to skip around and follow along. Very helpful.

Nice now I get to judge the places that have bad connections

This would be so helpful at my school. I’d just go walking around and sit at the seat that will get me best service but I already know those spots are near the windows. Throughout the school you either get bad or no service.

That’s super useful! I’ll be remembering this one. Next time my calls keep failing I can try and check if it’s the signal strength!

I install cell systems for a living that’s not correct at all, the closer you are to zero means the service is getting worse, perfect service comes between -110 and -140 and these numbers refer to the megahertz of power being received to your phone from the cell towers

«to go as low as possible» literally imagined numbers going in -200 and -300 but not mathematical illiteracy of op
