DRDO has a good track record for developing sensors and instrumentation. DC-MAWS, RWR, ASPJ were developed fairly quickly. EOTS will also be developed on time for first prototypes.

IRST and EOTS both have advantages and Disadvantages. EOTS can be use in a way like IRST but for that it has to be on top flight ceiling. IRST can be used for targeting Land and aerial targets but its not stealthy, so might need to add either some coating or some "cover" during flight. Having both is not really necessary, IRST at present are like rounded ball, which protect the internal system of IRST but the question is, need the enclosure be only round? why cannot it be like a trapezoidal prism so in a way the enclosure similar to EOTS but to cover the IRST system? it would be advantage of IRST without the stealth penalty..
