The 146th Open Championship in 2017 was the 10th occasion Royal Birkdale had hosted the event and everyone’s eyes were on one man, Jordan Spieth.

The American led wire-to-wire, scoring an impressive 12 under par for the championship, beating fellow American Matt Kuchar by three strokes to win his first Claret Jug and third major championship.

While many people who watched remember the chaos that happened with Jordan Spieth at the 13th hole, what happened afterwards was even more astounding. Consider that, after walking off the 13th green with a one-shot lead, Matt Kuchar played the next four holes in 2-under par, yet LOST three strokes to Spieth. Kuchar did everything he could once he got the lead to win, but not only did he not win, he got steamrolled.

Absolutely love Spieth but was totally pulling for Kuchar to win

Some people aren't meant to win majors. Kuchar realized this after this tournament. Spieth put on the magic show late, and it makes you wonder if there is an argument for determinism.
