I was lucky enough to do this excursion and walk in 2007 on a nice sunny day in June. Walked as far as the red onion domed Church and then retraced my route back to Bolzano/Bozen. The sky was a little clearer and you could make out some of the jagged peaks of the Dolomites in the East.
Only went to Bolzano to see Ötzi the Iceman but spent nearly a week travelling around the beautiful valleys and their old towns and Castles.
