Making the case for paid family leave

Biological anthropologist Thom McDade and sociologist Christine Percheski say offering paid family leave can reduce poverty and boost breastfeeding, both of which have enormous health benefits for kids. Combining their unique research insights, McDade and Percheski together make a compelling case for improving access to paid family leave in the United States.

McDade and Percheski are both professors in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and faculty fellows in Northwestern University’s Institute for Policy Research (IPR) — an interdisciplinary public policy research institute working to stimulate and support social science research on significant public policy issues. ____
