Investigators looking into the deadly August 13, 1985 crash of JAL 123 discover that the cabin’s pressurized air may have caused the plane’s faulty tail fin to rip off, mid flight. Amazingly, the crew were able to keep the 747 flying for around 30 minutes before it crashed.

Mad respect to those pilots for keeping that plane in the air with no rudder!

This was an excellent episode and a truly inspiring heroic crew that did the impossible despite the sad ending.

Impromper repair caused this mess, the splice plate top only has 1 rivet row while the bottom has 2 rows due to an earlier accident that damaged the bulkhead. 1 row isnt enough to withstand that much pressure and flight cycles

There would’ve been more survivors if that rescue wasn’t delayed.

Japanese airlines have reflected on this accident, and since then, Japanese airlines have not caused fatal accidents.

The fact that Japan refused assistance from the U.S and delayed their rescue is infuriating. More people could have been potentially saved

Japan Air Lines Flight 123 was a scheduled domestic passenger flight from Tokyo to Osaka, Japan. On August 12, 1985, the Boeing 747 operating the service suffered a severe structural failure and decompression 12 minutes into the flight.

I wondering what happened if the pilot could land the plane at Nagoya

Hopefully some changes in how Japan runs rescue operations. That’s some total incompetence.

so just as the worst plane disaster it was again, human error. That doesn't include unforseeable technical errors- but things that could've been prevented. I.e. misguiding commands, badly excecuted repairs...

Boeing technicians who repaired faulty should have been punished..
