This is the awesome original. Just because you love Salt n Pepa's cover version doesn't mean you need to hate this classic from the legendary Stax Records catalogue.

When I found out I was having a boy I would sing the chorus to my belly. I must have programed him, because he is a wonderful man, husband, and father. I love him to pieces.

Nothing can replace the original. Or that horn section!

Written by Dave Crawford, my friend who did the backgrounds on the best record I ever made. He was murdered in 1988.

This version is incredible. I never knew how much of the Salt N Pepa version came from this. Even more incredible that this song was largely improvised. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

"Got me doin' the camel walk, in my sleep...Make me do the James Brown, every time I get on my feet". That about says it all. What A Mighty Fine Track!

You are free to like BOTH versions. They are both amazing and it's fine if you like one a bit more than the other. It's also possible to like BOTH cats and dogs and The Beatles and The Rolling Stones too.

Wow this is a lesson that none of us are too old to learn. And it's good to hear the truth about things. As well as where you can find real raw talent. So she sang this song and Salt n Pepa covered it! I love it. Hats off to STAX records. My #1 favorite will always be the late great Isaac Hayes.

I was still a teen when this was out and this was a jam. Back then, there were more White musicians and singers than you may realize. Nobody was making big deals of it. If you were good, just step and do your thing was our attitude. Love it ❤

Every time I hear Salt n Pepa’s version (which I grew up on and love) I have to listen to the original (which I *also* love) to even things out lol.

I love the Salt N Pepa version but I am shocked that En Vogue did not do this entire song on Funky Divas, because it would have been perfect for them, but they did a heck of a job on that chorus!
