I tried RISKY Kickoff Strategies in Ranked

Kickoffs are so much more boring in Rocket League than they need to be. So I put a twist on them to make them more interesting. I tried new risky kickoff strategies in ranked Rocket League.

My Links

Rocket League Kickoffs are one of the most important aspects of the game. It determines who gets play to play offense first which is often a big difference maker in a game's outcome. Right now, everyone in the player base uses the same kickoff strategy in Rocket League. Today, I experimented with some friends to see if we could come up with any strategies that worked better or perfectly countered that standard strategy that everyone uses right now. It was a lot of fun and we actually walked away with something that we'll probably end up using in future ranked games. New Rocket League kickoff strategies are a lot of fun to try out even if they aren't successful.

Honestly, I don't think the first kickoff is an abject failure. Yeah, the other team will read the first one after you do it once or twice. But a 1-2 goal advantage can win you the game. Just don't push it. Mix up your kickoffs instead of using it every single time.

My friends and I came up with the "triple back" strategy where we all sit on our side of the field and counter attack the kick off. Works great in Silver.

I find it funny how Johnnyboi was digging on BDS and Endpoint for having terrible and basic kickoffs, and actually encourages teams to try kickoffs like this to gain an advantage

I'd say you undersold the first one. It is a decent one to use only once. Nothing to replace the current kickoff but a benefit to changing things up

Uploading this right before the London LAN event… this should be fun

I invented this kickoff that I try occasionally. I call it, “the speed fake”. It’s where I pretend I can speed flip, and ultimately drive straight past the ball. Works great!

This definitely is true for most mindless grinding and solo queuing since you can't coordinate it well, but you'd be crazy to think pros do not have playbooks of kick off strats and are constantly trying to counter and play RPS on kickoffs. We just need to step up our game and have more names for these things now that we have in game VC

I'd say strategy 1 and 3 have great value to be used every now and then. it increases the number of unexpected playstyles. it would be a solif strategy used by teams.

it's like with how volleyball players signal their teammates what kind of serve strategy they should apply.

This gave me vibes of the Endpoint Vs BDS Lower bracket finals where at least 7 of the 9 goals were on horrible kickoffs.

I wouldn't consider the other kickoffs a "failure" u don't need to use them all the time but can be a powerfull surprise and alternative once in a while, like that u can mix up kickoffs and it becomes more unpredictable for the opponent

I've been doing that last strategy for a while now, whenever I'm in either diagonal position, I boost straight for the ball but then swerve a bit to my side of it. It works sometimes. And when it doesn't work, most of the time it still turns out ok. You don't even really need comms when random queueing - if the other diagonal goes for it, I do the swerve. If they don't, I just do the regular kickoff instead.

I've been waiting all morning for your upload to submit an idea that I've not seen anyone really talk about that I think either goes over looked or is straight up left out from most content creators. That being "micro mechanics" or "small-ball moves". Things like recoveries off the wall when you're low on boost and are close to the ground. Getting ball touches from the corners when you're either on defense or offense. Just training all the little things you do with your car and the ball that aren't dribbles, flicks, or power shots. Idk if this makes sense or not but I'm in C1and since I've begun focusing on these little movements/touches, I've seen a massive improvement in my overall control but I'm struggling to articulate exactly it all entails. I think you're the perfect dude for this concept and I'd love to know your thoughts!
