So what happens to the mechanical properties of the case, because there are possibilities it could change.

I'm hoping this will work with getting the outer casing of the detroyed bearing stuck in my crankcase.

The front is not more difficult. The front is easier. You can push the front bearing out with a wooden stick so easily. If the rear is rusted this BANGING will not work. You need a blind bearing removal kit such as motorcycle bearing puller.
