Ash’s debut LP ‘1977’ has been reissued for the first time on stunning black and white splatter vinyl. This spectacular debut release was a defining record for 90s guitar music, reaching No.1 in the Official UK Albums Chart, and going to achieve platinum status. It includes singles ‘Girl From Mars’, ‘Kung Fu’, ‘Goldfinger’, ‘Angel Interceptor’ and ‘Oh Yeah’ which remain staples of the Ash’s live show.

This is the first time the album has been re-issued since its 1996 release.

The summer of 1996 belonged to Ash; following the chart topping ‘1977’ and ‘Goldfinger,’ ‘Oh Yeah’, the fifth single from the band’s number 1 debut album crashed into the UK Top 10. The festival season crescendoed at Reading Festival, with over 60,000 heat-scorched bodies singing along to, ‘Oh Yeah’, the anthem of the summer.

Five consecutive sold out nights at the London Astoria followed, along with the self-funded (and disowned) tour excess documentary ‘Teenage Wildlife’, narrated by (Obi-wan Kenobi) Ewan McGregor.

Produced by Owen Morris and recorded at Rockfield Studios, ‘Oh Yeah’ features backing vocals from Lisa Moorish (Oasis - Fade Away, Warchild). The video was banned by the BBC’s iconic Top Of The Pops TV show.

‘Oh Yeah’ featured in the 1996 episode of RTE’s Reeling in the Years.

I miss this band and I miss the great optimism I had for life when this song came out... sometimes I wish it was 'That Summer' again...

Summer '96 and '97. 16/17 years old. My best mate's English cousin. Vividly remember listening to this song with her and feeling like the king of the world. Oh to back there

Hey Ash! Thank you for making my early-mid 20s some of the greatest days I'll ever have. You guys were part of the soundtrack. God bless lads, I hope life treats you all well X

Will we ever get music as good as this again, the 90's, the last of the great music

No one here April 2024?
Ha ha. Putting together a song list for a party. It was amazing when Ash released their first three singles. Huge hopes for a new pop/rock revival but apart from a few hits ftom some other bands it all fizzled out...

The summers from 95 to 96 for me were the best ever.
Single guy, no ties, great music.
And I was saving for the best holiday I ever had.
3 weeks in california and Vegas.
Was a great time to be alive.

Love this tune - '96 was a great year for music. i turn 30 this year and it breaks my heart a little that i've never found love, never had the sweet sensational summer days and nights that this beautiful tune evokes for lots of reasons i won't bore you with.
the 90s were awesome. Being alive is awesome but, damn, it can really hurt.
peace, youtubers

That summer was '97 for me, almost the exact scenario as this song, but damn this song takes me back...this may be the perfect, ultimate pop rock song to describe young love. Not your first crush, but being a little bit older, later in your teens, old enough to be going out and doing something with your teenage passion, not old enough to realise how ephemeral it all is and not caring...

I was 17 when this song came out and I bought the album. My college friend Gary would listen to it in his bedroom as we went to his house for lunch. Kinda fancied him though nothing happened between us this song just summed up what I was feeling.🥰❤️😊

My mind is blown, how this doesn’t have a billion views is beyond me! This was an epic summer tune in 96, I was in my early 20’s thinking I’d lived and knew it all! Ha ha I didn’t know Jack shit about anything! I’m lucky corn beef sandwiches r a thing or I’d if starved!

Solid album. I remember getting paid and going to the record shop after work. Still know all the words like it was yesterday.

Yes, this song (and 90's music and general) and the lyrics "start of the summer" shows how exciting times used to be.
