Cheap Charging Wires Are Destroying Your iPhone...

I explain why cheap charging wires are killing your iPhone, and why you should never use them.

You should only use brand named MFI certified charging wires such as belkin, anker, cellhelmet, and ampsentrix.

Cheap charging wires you buy for under $10 are not MFI certified even if they say they are in the title.

One of the wires I bought in the video stated that it was an “MFI certified” charging wire. Cutting them open revealed that they were in fact not.

If you keep using these cheap chargers, it causes stress on the iPhone’s tristar chip and it will eventually fail. The Tristar chip in iPhone tells the iPhone to charge so once this fails, your iPhone motherboard will need to be repaired which costs a lot of money. Don’t risk damaging your phone over paying $5 extra for a good charging wire.

Don't you just love how apple could've so easily just put the protection inside their phone, but instead to make a couple of bucks the put it in their certified charger. Where as on my galaxy device with USB-C there is no such issues.

I would like to see if this is actually a problem if you use a quality power supply. Somebody should hook up an oscilloscope to see if there’s actually voltage spikes when plugging in the power supply, turning on a computer, etc. Because Apple is known for being incredibly manipulative with its designs and I wouldn’t be surprised if this voltage regulation circuitry isn’t actually necessary if you’re not using a crappy wall adapter.

It's another way that Apple tries to be proprietary. Like Liam Hill said, they could of put the chips inside of the phone instead in the cable.

I've been using a cable I brought at a grocery store 3 years ago with my iPhone SE 1st gen to this day. Hasn't fried it yet... either I'm lucky, or it apparently it's somehow MFI certified despite being a incredibly generic brand cable. Or it's also possible the adapters I've used with it are actually of good quality & as such have voltage regulation in them in the first place.

This has happened to me on my iPad and is still actively ruining my sister’s iPhone. I thought before that it was the bad chargers that stop it from working, and this just confirmed my suspicions. Thank you

Feels like this is an Apple issue. I get the point about the cheap wire .. but this feels like something that should be regulated by some chip inside the phone .. and not dependent on the charging cable. But hey .. it's why I am broke and Apple is beyond loaded! 😂

I don’t cheap out on my charging cables, I’ve never had a problem with cables frying my phone, but the cheaper stuff tends to break far quicker than more expensive nylon weave cables

Actually, it does not send it to ground, because that would be a super dumb short circuit.
It still supports low voltage charging (5V 2A) just not 9V 2.5A

If that tiny tiny tiny tiny chip can protect your phone, that means Apple is negligent in not putting it in the phone. Not sure that I believe the entire narrative though, I charged my phone for years with all sorts of crap wires.

I only use my iPhone charger …. Literally I would assume it’s a super charger thing cause it chargers my phone in like 20-30 min.

Shilling for Apple i see.
A voltage regulator that protects against surges and spikes is one of the simplests circuits / ICs to make. So unless these fake cables only _pretend_ to have a voltage regulator in them (ie just a functionless piece of plastic stuck in there) then there should be no issue using aftermarket charging leads and chargers.

What is probably going on is that Apple is deliberately and unnecessarily making their devices intolerant to anything but their own certified and way overpriced accessories.

Why do no other manufacturer's phones, tablets, laptops etc have this problem? Consider that for a minute.

I played football at the University of Colorado and me and my teammates would go to the Frat parties and we would say we're coming in and that was the end of story

One time I couldn't find a cable to charge my M1 Ipad pro. Took a cheap USB-C Cable and plugged it in. It did not work through my magic keyboard which was weird so I plugged it into my ipad port directly. 5 minutes later I smell something and see the charger smoking. I pulled the cable out and it was literally on fire!!! So I presume apple also does this for their USB-C cables? Why put the mechanism in the cable and not the device itself? Foolishness. Apple did this intentionally, I am not speaking from my ass either. I almost lost my ipad, it wouldn't charge for two days straight, luckily enough it somehow repaired itself before I had to tear it apart to fix it.

If the Apple phones are that delicate, you'd have to be an idiot to buy those phones. I've used cheap chargers with tons of phones over the years, with plain old cables with no form of protection in them whatsoever, just plain old data or direct wired charger cables and no damage. I call BS on your claim of a voltage surge when a car is started. That's not how automotive electrical systems work. There is actually a voltage depression while the vehicle is started and stable voltage after that.

Grab a multimeter and measure it for yourself. It's called science, collecting evidence and that whole prove your theory thing.

So what car chargers can we buy for iPhone?

My mum bought a off brand apple charger set for 90 dollars it came with an adapter and a charging cable. Now first of all that is so expensive just for an adapter and a charging cable but not only that the off brand cable doesn’t work on any other adapters besides the one the company sells but you can legit buy a apple adapter and charger for 60 dollars and the apple charging cable can connect to any adapter AND SHE CAN BUY A EXTRA METER LONG APPLE CHARGER AND IT WILL STILL BE CHEAPER FOR ONLY 80 DOLLARS long story short just buy original products and don’t get scammed
