Navien NPE240A hot water recirculation with Alexa voice control

This video shows how my Navien Tankless water heater recirculation works via voice control with Alexa.

The Navien HotButton kit has a 12v out to power the switch. You can buy 4 conductor 18ga shielded cable from Home Depot for about 60 cents a foot. Pair the switch to your wifi (this was the hardest part because I had to turn off the 5Ghz channel on my router and I typed the password in wrong unbeknownst to me). Enable the eWelink app for Alexa. Then create an Alexa ROUTINE to turn on the switch when a certain command is made, I used "Hot water." The recirc will run for 5 minutes or until the sensor senses the correct temp. ****EDIT**** The temperature sensor shown in the video is not necessary. My switch is set to trigger for .5 seconds since that is all that is needed because the Navien switch is a momentary switch. In addition to this, I added a very similar device to a newly installed bathroom fan. I wired a Sonoff Basic to the fan without a switch. So I added a 35 minute timer for the fan to the hot water routine on Alexa. This makes convenient when you finish taking a shower you don't have to leave the fan switch on and turn it off later, it's automatic.

Wait, what just happened? Wheres the bypass valve? Is this an inslternal recirculation pump built in tankless unit? How is that wired / connected to whatever that thing you hung on the wall is?

This is really cool! Thanks for sharing. One question: I don't see you are using the physical hot button but just the wiring from the kit. Is that correct? If so, maybe I can just get the wiring from homedepot instead? :)

Great video, thanks. I've been wanting to do this for a year. Ordering the parts right now. Do you need the temperature sensor? I thought the Navien unit has a return line temp sensor built in?

Hi interesting and thank you for the video. Just a question do you need to have a dedicated recirculating pipe for this to work? Thanks.
