Here’s why some people actually don’t like grapefruit. A scientist at a research center studying taste and smell showed me first hand. She passed out a tiny vial of clear liquid to every student in my class. About 30 of us. Told us all to take a sip. Everyone winced. Then she asked if anyone didn’t taste anything at all. Me and one other raised our hands. To us it literally tasted like water. Turns out there’s a small percentage of the population that sense bitterness differently. We sense bitter, but just differently, it doesn’t taste bad it tastes sweet. I’ve been eating grapefruit my whole life and didn’t know why others hated it! Now i knew. Just to test it i took the vial home and asked my girlfriend to take a sip. To make sure the scientist didn’t just mix 2 vials if water in the batch. Sure enough my girlfriend almost spit it right back out! I wish i knew what the chemical was called that she used for this test. She told us but i can’t remember.

Thanks for explaining why the membrane is not eaten. No other video does that, and I kept wondering why not eat it like an orange. Got one from a market that has imported fruit from USA, imma try that! Thanks for the vid.

Normally I'm pretty good at figuring out the common sense way to do things, but I never figured this method for grapefruiting. Can't wait to try it, but after years of messy scooping out with a spoon I think I might miss the bitterness of the tough white parts. My brain is now programmed to expect that bitter aftertaste from grapefruit.

I am watching this after I ate a grapefruit slice like an orange and my tongue now tastes bitter on everything. I drank a glass of chocolate milk and my tongue only can taste the bitter from the grapefruit. Lesson learned.
