1100 is pretty good considering your house only should run between 60 and 80 psi

I don't know what is more impressive...the crimp fittings held at that pressure or what it took to bust the PEX!

This is the shit we need to see! Thanks Roger

Installed PEX since 2000, wursbo radiant heat, modular homes, northeast winters, crimp rings, pinch rings shark bite, brass, plastic ever a single failure due to tubing. Blows away any pipe during freeze ups. (no pun int)

That's so crazy the pex ring holds. That's awesome

Darn. I run my shower at 1500 psi so that way water just shoots the grease and grime off along with my skin

1051 I saw before it blew... so it should be rated for 500. 700 psi.

Wonderful! Notice how the pipe ruptures along its axis, a great example of hoop stresses.

I think that sharkbite cap not blowing off is more impressive

Impressive. So it looks like that I can use the PEX lines to distribute the air from my air compressor.

Those are some strong fittings there 😂

Thumbs up 👍 I love this test. The only thing I would like to see is a piece about 30 years old tested.

Depends on temperature, PEX tubing has a standard hydrostatic pressure rating of 160 psi at 73℉ (this is a 630 HDB rating, which applies to all PEX tubing sold in the U.S.). At 180℉, it has a pressure rating of 100 psi. However, there are different types of PEX tubing made by various manufacturers. So in saying this, when they design pipe, the rating they give is 1/3 of what it can actually handle. Another factor that people don't think about is, when installing if you get a slight scratch in the pipe, it can create a weak spot in pipe and pressure will first push out in that spot causing it to split when under pressure, so this is partly why they rate at only a 1/3 of what actual bursting pressure.

I never would've guessed it would hold that much pressure. Holy moly

Now do one that's been exposed to 5 years of arizona summers

You should increase pressure and hold at certain pressures. Would be more real-world to see if it busts sooner if a lower psi is held for a few seconds or minutes

A burst test like this needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Pressure ratings for plastic pipes are not only dependent on the magnitude of the pressure, but also on the time spent at pressure. If this pipe bursts at 1150 psi, that doesn't mean that it could hold 1000 psi indefinitely. That's why PEX pressure ratings, as well as other plastic pipes, are significantly lower than their burst pressure values.

Glad I redone all the pipes in my house with that after the PVC busted they freeze but haven't busted even the shark bite fittings

I can think of a lot of home owners and professional plumbers that need to see this one.

That ALWAYS happens. As soon as I look away,
whatever I'm waiting for to happen happens.
