Can't believe he's gone. Was a baby during his prime but was a teenager during the 2nd time at being 45 heavyweight champions. He instilled hope in middle-aged people. I'm talking about regular folks getting them to run with him. Sure, he was a great boxer

People rarely mention what I consider his greatest fight against Ron Lyle, Lyle was like another version of George, ex-con one of the forgotten 70s greats, he wasn't intimidated by George and gave as good as he got knocking George down twice. The second knock-down George was spark out flat on his face, a ref today today would have probably waved the fight over but you could see George's inner spirit and determination force his barely conscious body to rise from the canvas. In the next round he pulverized Lyle and could have killed him because the stupid ref left him to unleash unanswered blows on a helpless Lyle against the ropes, only George's fists keeping him upright, luckily Lyle managed to fall forward into an unconscious heap before it was too late.

Some guys seemingly have super human power and it shines through when they box. You can hit them 40 times and they won't flinch, but they hit you once or twice, it's lights out. Power combined with training, you become unstoppable.
