'Like the congestion charge': Boris Johnson on Irish border checks post-Brexit

The UK's foreign secretary and Brexit champion has said crossing the border between Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic could be as easy as travelling between London boroughs, comparing future checks to London's congestion charge. His comments come as the EU prepares to publish the legal text on the divorce agreement reached between the UK and EU in December, which covers the border in Ireland as well as the financial settlement and EU citizens’ rights

Is he seriously comparing the border between two sovereign states with the border between two London boroughs?

Give the 6 counties back to Ireland, your hard border can be the Irish sea. Please note the Good Friday agreement is in jeopardy here.

WTO rules means hard border, different custom policy means hard border, quitting SM/CU means hard border. Period. no way around it

Word is in Dublin political circles that government ministers now completely ignore the utterances of this clueless toff and wait for the actual British position to come from British PM.
This guy found his level at London mayor. Who he hell gave him a cabinet seat.

Its utterly staggering that people vote for this clown. Doesn't say much for the electorate. Someone once said that "expensive education doesn't necessarily equal intelligence". Boris is a prime example of that view for sure.

either he believes what he is saying or he does not but believes UK people are stupid. all possibilities are catastrophic

He's essentially the 'Honey Monster', minus the compassion and the most basic understanding of how the world actually works.

Boris is Right! You can drive seamlessly through London same as Dartford tunnel no more having to stop at tollbooth. *Unseen Cameras, * that's how it should be on Irish border.

56% of Northern Ireland voted to Remain. The overall UK vote to Leave was less than 52%. Either a 'soft, ' or a 'hard' trade border across Ireland could nullify the Good Friday Agreement. Many Protestants would rather support Renunciation to Brexit.

Hard to judge when all you show is a tiny sound bite with the clear intention of putting down the subject.
Desperate journalism with blatant bias.

Fantasy Island Unicorn Model or Hotel California model. Either way, we aren't leaving the EU.

UK is very tolerant about duty-free from EU. UK will not be at all bothered about the few Irish people buying cheap in Belfast and taking it back to Southern Ireland. It's up to Irish "Teashop" whether he puts border 🛂

What's with all the people who think we can't negotiate a reasonable solution with northern Irland about a border policy?

All I can think is they wantbto find some reason why we shouldn't go ahead with brexit. It's northern irland and irland, if we can't come to a reasonable arrangement with our nearest EU nabours, that just shows how dysfunctional the EU is.

I would like to establish the Kingdom of Camden (btw vote me to be the King) and ok, we could have a soft border between our nation and the UK. hahaha
