One of the best pop bass lines ever. And Nathan East is such a cool dude on top of it all. Underrated bassist.

N8 is the coolest cat with the biggest smile out there. Groovin’ like a badass no matter the artist he holds down the bottom for.

Nathan East is one of the baddest cats to ever pick up a bass. He is an essential part of the great jazz group fourplay along with the original members Bob James on keys Harvey Mason on drums and Lee Ritniour on guitar 🎸

If you listen to the original Loggins track there is a lot more mid range string noise “chug” than what he’s showing here. It’s a cool sound - too cool for a pop song. And this guy was putting a lot of effort to make this song great. He’s all over the place. I love it. So much so I sent an email his way thanking him for helping me form my sound. I doubt he received it but wouldn’t it be cool if he did? Bass players never get the love.

My 5-string Alembic was also made in the 80s, and it too had a pretty narrow stringspacing. I guess 5s weren't too common back then, more derived from a "how many strings can we fit on a regular neck??" sort of thing.

Nice tight string spacing. I’ve played jimmy Johnson’s 5 string. Talk about tight spacing, jimmy started with a 4 string alembic width neck and he made it a 5! I’d love to play a BB like Nathan’s!! Thanks Scott
