The 992 Porsche 911 Carrera S isn’t worth the price (for me).

I've wanted a Porsche 911 for over a decade. Last weekend, I drove the latest 992 Carrera S in anger, and as you'd expect, it's a brilliant machine - the undisputed king of semi-practical everyday sports cars. However, I'm not so sure I want one anymore - at least not as desperately as I once did. My son is suitably shattered when I tell him I won't be getting one anytime soon. But holy sh*t, what a car.

NOTE: Some viewers seemed to confuse my "90% of the fun for 30% of the price" statement with my MX5, which is incorrect. For that to be true, my MX5 would have to be worth at least $100k. My statement is in reference to the Boxster and Cayman (I bought a base model 981 Boxster in late 2022). And yes, it's at least 90% of the fun of the 911!

Some viewers confused my "90% of the fun for 30% of the price" statement with my MX5, which is incorrect. For that to be true, my MX5 would have to be worth at least $100k. My statement is actually in reference to the Boxster and Cayman. :-) *UPDATE: I bought a 981 Boxster in October 2022. 🙂

I understand what you are saying. BUT... for me the Porsche is just what my soul needed and I am blessed to have the means to afford one. You are a top man and your family are lucky to have you. Look forward to seeing and hearing more from you!

Lovely video. Bought my first Porsche (a Cayman S) in 2009 when my kids were 4 & 6 … so a second car. The only marque I’ve driven since. Through Caymans, Cayennes & a 991 it’s been magical. Now at 60 years old Ive just ordered a 992 Targa 4S. The dream continues.

I think I appreciated seeing your relationship with your son more than the beautiful car (which the 911 is beautiful). Greater video!

Wow Peter! Such a cool experience! As a kid I used to daydream about Porsche’s and frequently collected the toy hotwheels. So cool to see you driving one and get an up close gel for driving one. Must’ve been really fun to do with your son as well. Glad you got to do that!

I enjoyed your video. I’ve been a driving enthusiast for most of my adult life and always drove some sort of a performance car. From a ‘79 Corvette to ‘84 VW GTI to ‘87 BMW 635 CSI, I’ve always enjoyed cars that eagerly went around the bend. With a bit of success in my career, I moved onto ‘97 993 C2S and owned a number of Porsches including a 996 GT3. What I can share about my experience with all these cars is that I found Porsches to be among the best engineered cars I’ve ever owned (all 38 of them) and that they have a unique set of characteristics that is highly enjoyable. And each model, while superseded by the next gen model, tends to maintain its desirability even as it ages. For such a high performance car, Porsches are relatively affordable to maintain and they are highly durable, comparing them to some of the other European high performance cars. I currently own a 2020 718 Spyder and it is by far the most enjoyable car I’ve owned to run up and down the California coast and its canyons. I can’t think of another car that I would enjoy driving as much as this Spyder. And that is just me. I am sure others enjoy their C8’s, Zs, or BMW M’s, or McLarens, etc. If you are a driving enthusiast and you have a car you love to drive, whatever car it may be, I think it’s worth all the money you are spending on it. As for me, I am now older and I may look for something more age appropriate but it will still likely be another Porsche. So, enjoy the car you have and have fun motoring!

1:24 1970s Lamborghini Urraco looks great in retrospect. Low wedge without the fake scoops and vents, and extra kinks and creases of 2015.

This is absolutely incredible. Going to start making/sharing personal car films because of you.

I loved this video Peter! What a fun and exciting adventure to share with your son! I have a love of sports cars myself. Three years ago when I moved from snowy Colorado to North Carolina, I was excited to get rid of my AWD Ford Fusion (which did have a turbo) for a Nissan 370Z and I have never regretted it. I can honestly say, when I drive my car...it still makes me happy! 😀

You say Porsche isn’t worth the $$$ . What supercar is worth the money . Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti ? No
But Porsche 911 is the one car that does it all and if not better than other super cars at a far less of a price !

Man thanks for sharing this so much. I was able to reminisce about my childhood riding fast with my dad then being able to drive him fast as an adult.
Ooh What memories🤙

I was one of the first people to do the Porsche drive experience with the 992 Carrera 4S. Like you, I've always lusted after a 911, but unlike you though, it only made me want one more! I'm happy to say I'm nearly there in my quest. Yes, it's a borderline ridiculous expense, but rolling a new model 911 out of my garage a couple of times a month is an indulgence I need in my life 😊

Poor old Aussies. I'm an Aussie in the US, and the 911 is less than half the price here (in local currency). My 991.2 GTS was ~130K (new) here, and at the time I bought it (2019) it was retailing for $350K in Aus. This is why I can't ever go back.. No 911s :(

Bruh I would’ve fought a raging bull to have been driving a lamborghini at 18. That photo of the r32, 911 and nsx is amazing, wallpaper stuff too. I have to check out some of these roads. Driving is imo the greatest joy and the funnest activity a person can do in the 21st century, maybe sex or being a fighter pilot measures up but idk. Being in a good car definitely makes a difference, but imo a steering wheel, pedals and going as fast as you can (while being safe) is already 50% of it.

Well made video as always, and great driving too.

What a great film! Yes, i just cannot believe that the car would be 10 times an M5 even if prettier. And I am glad that you had your chance, and with your kid.

This is a great video. I have spent my life dreaming of a 911 and only recently realised that dream with this model. I will hold it for a year or two and then perhaps consider an MX5. Cheers

Great video! I'm on the Mornington Peninsula, I'll have to go and scout out the road you mentioned in my 35 yo 911!

Personally, I think the rear end of the 991.2 is better proportioned and designed than the 992.
