Great points, Mik!

-It's interesting: As much as I prepare beforehand for an event, I always still have some pre-event anxiety (I have always had this, even as a working musician). However, when I'm working in the moment, that anxiety just goes away, as I'm focused on the job at hand, and I don't have time to consciously think about what I'm doing: I can only depend on my experience, training, and preparation to get me through the event. Something that was really helpful to me in my development as a professional musician and later in other performative-type skills was reading Timothy Gallwey's "The Inner Game of Tennis."

-Brix is a very good boy!

Great info! I definitely can relate to the ups and down of photography..sometimes I'm on s roll then times it can get dead. I currently quit my full time job of 20 years to pursue photography in the beginning of the year. Its def been a little challenging but the freedom of not waking up at 7am to 4pm of a full time job at a factory (which was taking away so much creativity and time from what I wanted to do) is the best decision I've ever made. I know you might have touched on the topic of just sticking to one genre of photography and focus on that but I took a different approach and try to touch on many ( events, weddings, real estate, product, portraits, ect.) Basically I'm trying to cover a wide genre and it's help he establish more income. I know that might not be ideal or work for everyone but it's working for me. Anyways mik, great video and its always a pleasure to hear your knowledge.
I currently have covid ( day 6 in recovery) and it sucks! I had to cancel a bunch of things i had lined up and its quite frustrating and i just want to get back to 100% and get back to working. It definitely put me down for the moment

I'm starting a business photography and I love these tips, specially the hard truths, but also the "you got this" at the end. As an artsy guy, the business type is getting to me😅I want the money, but if were for me, I would just do hobo street photography

Dog keeps viewers attention - nice. IMO sometimes business needs to grow to the point where business stuff can be handled by one of two partners while the other tends to making product. Entemans bakery comes to mind (not photog but stay with me); bakery was mom and pop outfit — mom did business stuff while pop did baking. Perhaps as an event photography concern succeeds it needs to separate business side chores. Does that make sense? Otherwise one can be stretched too far.

Great advice man. Question for you - I currently have a single body with two primes (23 and 50) that I constantly have to switch between, which can be annoying. Do you recommend investing in a second body or getting zoom lenses?

This is all great advice. But the fed up look on your dogs face after getting a lambasting for his weak high five is brilliant. Just sat there on the bench like “this guy, huh? I think I’m going to fall into a coma of boredom”

Have you had a job where they didn’t want flash because it was a distraction for that specific event?
