Opening in theaters and VOD March 23rd

Directed by: Adam MacDonald
Starring: Nicole Munoz, Laurie Holden, Chloe Rose & Eric Osborne

When you’re dealing with demons, be careful what you wish for… In this ultra-unsettling occult nightmare, teenage Leah (Nicole Muñoz) finds solace from the recent death of her father—and from her strained relationship with her mother (Laurie Holden)—by dabbling in the dark arts. It all seems like harmless fun at first, until a blow out argument leads Leah to do the unthinkable: put a death curse on her mother. No sooner has the girl performed the ritual than she regrets it. But it may be too late, as an evil presence known as Pyewacket begins to make itself known—and threatens to destroy both mother and daughter. Backcountry director Adam MacDonald builds hair-raising tension around what’s both a complex mother-daughter tale and a frightening fable about our darkest desires.

Leah: *summons a demon*
Demon: "Hi!"
Leah, screaming: "Get away from me!"

Criminally underrated on IMDb.
5.8; should be a 7.

The part when the she screams "I wish you were dead" 0:47 would fit right in a black metal lyric with her singing it...

I just watched this today on Hulu. This was such a good film! It was great to see a creepy horror film that made you think and didn't rely on jump scares or stereotypical horror movie cliches...

I liked this movie. Pretty tense and creepy. Don't go in expecting a scare fest

I actually enjoyed this movie. A lot of cool things happening. The fact PyeWacket was not overly exposed was one of the beauties. Nice foreshadowing going on with the author of the Occult book and the end. Worth the watch!

Decent movie. Left a number of unanswered questions at the end. I like that in a movie, it encourages critical thinking.

The reviews don't lie. It's actually pretty good. Starts put a bit slow, but pretty, pretty good.

I give this movie 8.8/10 I really enjoyed it, great cinematography and smart effective horror elements. However, it was really short.

Excellent film. Creepy in just the right measure. Not the typical predictable slaughter fest. Not overly artsy either. No wondering what the hell happened ending or over reliance on special effects. There are a few but well done and subdued. The only thing I would have liked was more on what actually happened to the lead character's friend after spending the night at the new home.

IFC Midnight never disappoints me. This one was a real nice gem to watch during the October Halloween Season, especially since TWD's alum, Laurie Holden is the star. 👍

"Bell, Book & Candle" (1958) w/Kim Novak & Jimmy Stewart was on TWICE this week on TCM! Unbelievable because one of the main stars in the movie was a Tonkinese Cat 🙀 named "Pyewacket!". A little weird but TOO FUNNY... 🤣

I have a book called “fire burn” with historical wood cuts about witchcraft and one of the images shows a witch and her familiars, one of them was named Pyewacket. That must be where they got the name. There were other funny named creatures, Grizzled Greedygut was another. It’s a great book.

I have to admit this is one of the better occult movies and I've seen a lot of them. I like it because it's atmospheric and dark with a great story and not too many fx effects as usual.
Although among the winners of cult films are still dark song and midsommar

Watched this last night.... damn, what a masterpiece of a horror flick. This trailer doesn't even capture the true mood of this film. The scariest thing about it, is it's somehow believable.
