Trespassing along railroad rights-of-way is the leading cause of rail-related deaths in America. Nationally, more than 400 trespass fatalities occur each year, the vast majority of which are preventable. Similarly, collisions at highway-rail grade crossings are the second leading cause of rail-related deaths, resulting in approximately 250 deaths annually. Too many people who trespass illegally or try to beat trains at crossings are not aware of the dangers. The Federal Railroad Administration has launched a targeted animated social media campaign to raise public awareness and discourage risky behavior around railroad tracks.
