Swissair 111 was actually one of the saddest. There was a cockpit fire and the Captain tried fighting the fire but failed and got incapacitated. The first Officer had to fly alone in a smoky cockpit with no indicators, and couldn’t even see where he was going. No communications, nothing. It’s unlikely if the passengers actually knew about the fire, at least until a minute before it crashed.
